First-night booking
Choose a property that answers the passport question clearly, then save the booking confirmation, Chinese address, and property contact before departure.
A hotel listing alone does not tell you how smoothly a particular check-in will go. Before departure, ask the property whether it can complete check-in with your passport and save its reply. If the answer is unclear, choose another property before arrival.
Late arrivals leave less room to solve a booking problem. Make the first night easy to reach, keep the address offline, and have a booking-platform support route available.
City hotel search
Beijing and Shanghai are practical first-night searches because major-city hotels are more likely to understand foreign-passport registration. After choosing a shortlist, still message the property before you fly.
For a first night in China, avoid informal guesthouses and tiny local chains unless they explicitly say they accept foreign guests.
