Tencent states that international visitors can link eligible international credit or debit cards to Weixin Pay before or after arrival in mainland China. Its documented payment options include scanning a merchant code, presenting a payment code, or selecting Weixin Pay in a merchant app. Check the current card eligibility and instructions on the official TenPay Global visitor page.
Travel payment failures are usually recoverable when they do not all depend on one app, one card, or one connection.

02 · INDEPENDENT BACKUP
Carry a separate card, some local currency where appropriate, or another provider-supported option. Check fees and availability with your issuer.
03 · REDUCE ARRIVAL RISK
Arrange your first hotel and essential transport in advance so a payment issue does not strand the first day of your trip.
Treat payment setup as one arrival task among several, not the only thing that must work instantly.
Connect to your data plan or reliable Wi-Fi and open WeChat before leaving the airport.
Use a small, ordinary purchase only if you need to confirm the payment flow. Do not rely on one successful test as proof that every merchant or card scenario will work.
If the card cannot be linked or a payment is declined, use your independent backup and contact the app or card issuer through its official support channel.
Keep your hotel address and transport plan available offline so a payment setup delay does not become an arrival problem.
Book the parts of the trip that you already know you need before arrival. This is not a substitute for daily payment, but it can make the first day far less fragile.
Compare the current hotel, transport, and ticket options for your route before travelling.

Do not plan on that. Card eligibility, verification, app status, and merchant acceptance can vary. A separate fallback protects the trip when the primary route is unavailable.
Do not repeatedly retry an uncertain transaction. Use the backup method, keep the transaction details, and contact the relevant official app or card issuer support channel if you need help.
Mobile payment and account verification usually require a connection. Set up data before departure and retain essential addresses and booking details offline.
